AUGUST 5, MEQUON, WI—Hayes Performance Systems, a major supplier of braking and control systems to the motorcycle and powersports industries, has officially launched into road racing as title sponsor of ATOM Racing.
Atom Racing includes principal (and avid rider) Steve Scheibe, as well as seasoned rider, Steve Rapp. The team is racing under BMW’s contingency program for the MotoAmerica Superstock 1000 class.
Through their sponsorship of Atom Racing, Hayes is also seizing the opportunity to use the last three races of the 2015 MotoAmerica series as the ultimate proving grounds in the development of one of their newest brake caliper designs. With some of the most demanding riding conditions in motorcycling, MotoAmerica is one of the most appropriate venues for putting these new designs to the test. Introducing these brakes in competition while supporting the Atom Racing Team is an excellent opportunity for all parties involved.
“This is an amazing opportunity participate in the top road racing series in North America and showcase the results of Hayes product performance,” said Scheibe. “With the proven performance of the BMW S1000RR, it was the obvious choice.”
Steve Rapp rode to a 2nd place finish in the Superstock 1000 class at MotoAmerica’s Laguna Seca stop aboard his Hayes equipped BMW S1000RR. “This test confirmed that we are making great progress in our testing with Hayes,” said Scheibe.
Steve Rapp said, “[Laguna Seca] was a great first time out! All expectations were exceeded. I’m looking forward to further progress as we take on Indy.”
“Hayes has a history in speed,” says Phil Malliet, President/CEO of Hayes Performance Systems. “Most of our products are born on the track or in whatever environment people ride. We have a company of passionate powersports, motorcycle and mountain bike enthusiasts. This sponsorship is a testament to our commitment to these sports and an extension of our research and development process.”
The series continues August 7-9 at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway and will play host to the MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Championship for the first time in 2015 as the series joins the stars of MotoGP at the Red Bull Indy MotoGP.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin is the blue-collar, hard-working town that happens to be the birthplace of both us and Harley Davidson. We invited Pinkbike to visit our headquarters here, the nerve center for Hayes Brakes, Answer accessories, Manitou suspension, SunRingle’ wheels, and Wheelsmith spokes, to show them the method behind that apparent madness.
The new Hayes TrailTrac High Performance Electronic Braking System hit the snow for the 2013-2014 snowmobile season. Learn all about TrailTrac and reserve your kit today!
The Hayes team will be bringing TrailTrac equipped Polaris Rush and Indy sleds to the 51st Annual World Championship Derby in Eagle River Saturday, January 18th. Being an innovator is always an uphill battle, even when the newly developed product is a total game changer. Bike Magazine recently touted the Hayes Mag disc brake as the brake that changed everything. Prior to the Hayes Mag debut in 1997, nobody had disc brakes. Downhill riders didn’t know they needed them, and actively disliked them when they were introduced.
A product that was well before its time, the Hayes Mag got a lot of pushback for being too heavy and simply too powerful. The guys at Hayes knew better though; they spent years making disc brakes for trucks, tractors, motorcycles and anything else with wheels – they knew once the resistance settled, the Hayes Mag would revolutionize the mountain biking industry. And that it did.
